The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs announced that Canada will help combat the trade in narcotics in Afghanistan through a contribution of $25 million, bringing Canada’s total contribution to support counter-narcotics efforts to $55 million since 2007. Minister Oda celebrates Hidden Treasures in Ottawa
On January 25, 2010, a select group of Ottawa’s political and cultural figures gathered at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, in honour of the Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures exhibit. The exhibit features stunning Afghan treasures from the National Museum in Kabul that were hidden for 20 years by a group of brave museum staff and government employees who, in the late 1970s, were committed to protecting the artifacts from looting and destruction.
